Hi, my name is Cori and I’m 33 years old. I’m a photographer, blogger, author, entrepreneur and social worker. This is me. The Ruhr area is my home, and the world is my adventure playground. Bochum is my base, which I like to leave for trips around the world. Photography is my passion. Without it I can survive but then it would be only half as cool.

I have founded a company where you can rent small and extraordinary mini caravans. I also run a travel blog, work as a photographer and solution-focused consultant. You can find me on Instagram under the following profiles: @cori_explore / @corivan_nrw / @bycori.de

Bochum is a city with a lot to discover and the offer for young people is great since Bochum is a student hub. I love the flair and the many small stores that are hidden in different districts. In the pub district Bermuda Triangle, you can turn night into day. There is always something going on here, concerts, parties, culture.

What is a typical breakfast and where would you go?

The typical German breakfast includes rolls or delicious bread. You can buy the best rolls of the city in the bakery Bäumer (Wasserstraße 262, 44789 Bochum)

Typical German sandwiches of your choice are available in the Butterbrotbar (Hans-Ehrenberg-Platz 1, 44789 Bochum). You should not miss this in any case.

Where is your favourite place to grab lunch?

The best place for lunch is the Franz Ferdinand (Klinikstraße 51, 44791 Bochum). It is located directly at the zoo. Especially in summer it is great to sit on the terrace with a view of the flamingo enclosure. The Austrian cuisine and the ambience are unique in Bochum.

You also get really delicious food in the Restaurant Zum grünen Gaul (Alte Hattinger Str. 31, 44789 Bochum)

Right next door at I am love (Dibergstraße 2, 44789 Bochum) you can get the tastiest vegan ice cream. The perfect dessert.

For all those who like cake, visit the small cafe called Omi backt (Hunscheidtstraße 61, 44789 Bochum). Here you can eat cake, baked by real grannies.

What is the ideal afternoon activity in a city like Bochum

The ideal afternoon activity in Bochum is to go to one of the cool bars and end the day. You can also enjoy a bit of culture, like going to a concert or to the Poetry Slam. The offer in Bochum is huge.

The perfect place is the rotunda (Konrad-Adenauer-Platz 3, 44787 Bochum) an old railroad station. There are many cultural events here.

Where are the best places for dinner?

The best Mexican restaurant in town is the Tequileria (Rottstraße 34, 44793 Bochum) and one of my favorite restaurants. I have traveled through Mexico myself and I can confirm 100% that it really tastes like you are there. The flair is great. You can drink various cocktails after dinner and let the evening fade away.

Also, one of my favorite restaurants is the Blondies (Hattinger Str. 80, 44789 Bochum). Here you can get delicious burgers (vegan, vegetarian or with organic meat). The dips are all vegan and homemade. You should definitely take the sweet potato fries with them.

In the evening, what is the city like and where do you find yourself?

In the evening we meet in the Bermuda Triangle. Here the life rages. Many restaurants, bars and clubs are waiting to be conquered by you. There is a lot going on there. You have the feeling that the whole city meets here to have fun.

In a busy city like Bochum, is there anywhere to chill?

Absolutely. There are many parks where you can relax. In the Westpark you can enjoy the typical Ruhr area scenery and in the Stadtpark (citypark) you can go for a walk and relax.

What is there to do for something fun and different?

You must visit the musical Starlight Express (Stadionring 24, 44791 Bochum) which is the only musical on roller skates.

In the Bergbaumuseum (museum of coal mining; Am Bergbaumuseum 28, 44791 Bochum) you can drive into a small visitor tunnel and learn a lot about the history of the Ruhr area. From the tower you have a magnificent view.

For those who love beer, a tour of the Fiege brewery (Moritz-Fiege-Straße 1, 44787 Bochum) is recommended. Afterwards you can taste the delicious Bochum beer and enjoy the local currywurst (sausage with curry sauce).

Where is the best area to stay/sleep for young travellers?

The best place to sleep is the hostel at the Bermuda Triangle (DJH Jugendgästehaus Bermuda3Eck / DJH Jugendherberge Bochum Humboldtstraße 59-63, 44787 Bochum). Here you are in the middle of what’s going on.

For couples I also recommend one of the Ibis hotels. Whether hotel or hostel, everything is within walking distance.

What season would you recommend visiting?

You can visit Bochum all year round. In winter there is a great Christmas market and in summer the free Open Air Festival Bochum total, so May- end of December would be ideal.

Is Bochum best for a family holiday/friends holiday or couple holiday?

Bochum is especially suitable for couples or friends.
