My name is Noa (@noatelem), I’m from Israel, but since I was a little girl, I’ve dreamed of living in NY. So, I who moved to NYC 5 years ago, and now I study Interior Design at FIT and live in the Upper East Side with my boyfriend.
What is a typical breakfast and where would you go?
Breakfast and brunch are my favourite meals! My top recommendation would be Sadelle’s, a unique experience of eating while seeing how the bagels are being baked. Sadelle’s is very famous for their bagels, which come in different flavours and are baked in the middle of the restaurant So, no matter where you are seated, you’ll see them being baked. I love the “behind the scene” vibes, and the promise that everything over there is fresh. In addition to that, the dishes are served on a tier of plates, which are super Instagrammable and save space on the table; a win-win situation.
The other two places I recommend for breakfast or brunch are 12 chairs and Jack’s wife Freda. They’re both set in various locations and they serve the same dishes throughout the day, so you can eat breakfast at any time (no oversleeping and missing out!).
Top tip: Go to 12 chairs’s Brooklyn branch, take away your order and go eat your breakfast at the closest park whilst viewing the Manhattan skyline.
Where is your favorite place to grab lunch?
By Chloe is a good option if you are looking for vegan food. Even non-vegans would enjoy their menu. The food is tasty, the place is pretty, and they have locations all over town, so no matter where you are, I can assure you that there is a branch somewhere nearby. Their service is efficient as well, so it’s the perfect spot for a quick on-the-go lunch.
What is the ideal afternoon activity in a city like NY?
No matter if it’s your first time in NY, the 4th or even if you are a local; my recommendation would be ideal for anyone – Sitting and relaxing in Central Park.Buy some food from Wholefoods in Columbus circle, enter the park from that side and have a picnic. Another option is to buy some good cheese, bread and spreads and create your own cheese plate (my personal favourite option) or just order a pizza. Either way, it is a perfect activity to enjoy the city life.
Where are the best places for dinner?
I am a sunset person andone of the perfect spots to see the sunset and the famous skyline of Manhattan is from the Westlight rooftop. It’s the ideal spot for sunset watching while eating and drinking. Make sure you make a reservation in advance (in general it is a good tip when you visit NY) and take into consideration that it takes a little bit of time to get to the rooftop, as you have to wait in line for the elevator.. I also recommend going before sunset in order to see it while you are already seated at your table.
Other places for having dinner would be Catch, TAO Downtown, and Buddakan. Buddakan is amazing and the atmosphere at TAO is so unique and definitely worth the visit. Also, for dessert, order the giant fortune cookie- it’s the best!
What is there to do for something fun and different?
Wow, so many! If you like art/museums, I recommend you go to Chelsea. The perfect neighborhood to get inspiration. Over there you can go to a variety of galleries, Whitney Museum of American Art (they have a roof deck as well so it’s a perfect spot for pictures) and the High line park, which is a linear park and a greenway- it’s a very unique place to go to and, of course, I’d recommended going there for sunset as well.
Other unique activities for something fun and different would be doing trapeze (as you seen in Sex and the City) and driving on a jet ski on the river around Manhattan and seeing the Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn bridge amongst the beautiful Manhattan skyline.
What season would you recommend visiting?
NY is perfect in any season. During summer you can go to Coney Island beach and enjoy the pier, visit festivals and tons of outdoor sitting areas. NY is also magical around Christmas time, when the city is full of flea markets, lights and picturesque ice-skating rinks.
Where its best location to take the perfect Intagram picture?
Obviously, Time Square! The ideal spotto get the perfect picture in Times Square is on the stairs whilst the photographer is stood on a step higher than you. This way, you can get a lot more of the view in the image, plus all the people in the background are smaller so the focus of the photo is all on you.
