Gavrielle Weiss
*sets down wine* Hi, I’m Gavi and I’m from Princeton, New Jersey. At the risk of sounding painfully cliché, I studied abroad in college and it “totally changed my life” (cue the eye roll). After a college semester abroad in London just wasn’t enough for me, I decided to move back across the pond permanently after graduation where I am now getting my masters in Fashion Media and Communication. I’ve had a passion for traveling since I was a little girl tagging along on my dad’s business trips around the world and now, thanks to cheap flights on EasyJet and friends who share my unabated wanderlust, I just can’t get enough! When I’m not catching flights, you can find me wandering around London with my camera, holed up in vintage stores on Brick Lane, or on the hunt for New York quality pizza in London (still in progress).
What city represents you the best?
I grew up in the suburbs of New York City and it has without a doubt shaped who I am today. Aside from regularly being told I speak too loudly and walk too fast, my style and my appreciation for amazing food (and most importantly, bagels) is proof of the special place New York has in my heart (and stomach).
Can you share your secret Wishlist with us?
I always keep a list in my journal of places I want to go, right now the top 10 are;
1. Bali, Indonesia
2. Tokyo
3. Istanbul and Cappadocia, Turkey
4. Cuba
5. India
6. Addis Abba, Ethiopia
7. Kuala Lampur, Malaysia
8. Berlin
9. Dubai
10. Juneau, Alaska
What is your favourite place in the world?
Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York. My family used to go there every year for Christmas, and it will always feel like a second home to me. For a little Jewish girl dying to decorate a Christmas tree, Mohonk gave me the best of all worlds. The stunning view of the Catskills and the warmth of the giant fireplaces in the evenings makes this place truly unique and special.
What vacation type is your favourite? (City break, back or adventure)
I like to mix up the kind of trips I go on, but I’m definitely a beach bum at heart. Give me beautiful views and an excuse to unwind with a good book and I’m there.
What is the first thing you do when you visit a new city?
Turn off Google maps and take a walk! I always try to resist the urge to start knocking off things from my list of things I want to see and do and just explore the neighborhood I’m staying in and take in everything around me.
