A day in Florence with Ginevra

April 21, 2020

Hello everyone, my name is Ginevra and I've lived in Florence all of my life. I'm 25 years old and I'm currently studying fashion in London. By living abroad I have learnt to appreciate more the narrow streets and the small buildings of my city, which embrace millennia of history and art.  Walking around Florence is easy, it's not very big, and you can do it comfortably walking around, enjoying the climate and the scents of the city.

What is a typical breakfast and where would you go?

On an ordinary day the typical breakfast consists of a croissant and a cappuccino. Two of my favourite bars is Bottega di Pasticceria or Badiani.

Where is your favourite place to grab lunch?

The best place for a quick lunch is All' Antico Vinaio, a historical place in Florence.

What is the ideal afternoon activity in a city like Florence?

I wouldn't call Florence a vibrant city, and afternoon activities usually involve a coffee with friends or a walk around the city centre.

Where are the best places for dinner?

The best places to go for dinner are almost all downtown. The typical dish is meat and more specifically Florentine steak. The restaurants I recommend are Zazà and La Giostra.

In the evening, what is the city like and where do you find yourself?

In the evening it is easy to get stuck in traffic, so it is important to choose the right place to go for an aperitivo. My advice is La Loggia in Piazzale Michelangelo.

In a busy city like Florence, is there anywhere to chill?

My favourite places to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city are Chalet Fontana, which is bar surrounded by a garden or Villa il Ventaglio park.

What is there to do for something fun and different?

For fun there are 4 or 5 nightclubs, most of them downtown: Yab, Downstairs, Full Up, Space Electronic and, if you like techno you should definitely go to Tenax, which is a bit far from the city centre.

Where is the best area to stay/sleep for young travelers?

I think the best choice are the hostels in the centre, being a city full of foreign students will certainly be a pleasant experience to do.

What season would you recommend visiting?

The best season is spring, from mid/end of March until June. In winter it is quite cold and in summer the temperature can reach 40 degrees.

Is Florence best for a family holiday/friends holiday or couple holiday?

In my opinion it is more a city to visit as a couple or with family, I would not recommend it for a trip among friends.
